The Board of Governors is responsible for the overall management of the school and ensuring that all statutory requirements are complied with.  The Governors delegate to the Principal the day to day organisation of the school, school discipline and any other matters which they may from time to time decide.

 

The Governors:

 

i           ensure that the school delivers the statutory NI Curriculum;

ii          manage the school budget under the Local Management in Schools scheme;

iii         play a major role in the appointment of all staff including the Principal;

iv         appoint all auxiliary and ancillary staff (non-teaching);

v          ensure that the school premises and equipment are adequate;

vi         annual inspection of the building;

vii        make proposals for improvements

viii       respond to general inspection reports;

ix         ensure that policies are in place to cover all aspects of school life.

 

 

COMPOSITION OF THE BOARD OF GOVERNORS

 

The Board of Governors which will operate for four years from 2014 will consist of nine members, made up as follows;

 

(a)        four shall be nominated by transferors.

 

(b)        two shall be elected by parents of pupils attending the school from amongst parents of      such pupils;

 

(c)        two shall be appointed by BELB;

 

(d)       one shall be elected by teachers in the school from among their number.

 

The Principal is a non-voting member.

 

An election for parents' representatives is held approximately every four years coinciding with the setting up of a new Board.
